It's a bit of a "big" subject but I'll try and give you the low down...

SatNav or GPS physically cost's nothing, it's just the GPS chip in the N95 locking onto satellites in orbit and working out it's relative position.

But having said it cost's nothing...  Roll Eyes

In order to display your current position on a map, the N95 firstly needs a map - there are lots of maps for all different parts of the world and it would not be practical for the N95 to store them all, so you need to get the map that you need onto your phone, you can do this in 2 ways..

1st way - GPRS
If you have a data plan (you are not charged by the mb for online use) then the easiest way is to just fire up the MAPs application on the phone and let it download the maps it needs from the internet via GPRS.

2nd way - Maploader / PC

If you do not have a data plan then it may well work out expensive to keep downloading map information via GPRS, so Nokia has provided a PC application called "maploader" - which when installed on your PC allows you to select a map / maps via region and transfer them via data cable to the N95.

Extra Charges.

If you have a phone with recent firmware (there have been many software revisions to the N95 since launch) then you may have A-GPS which is Assisted GPS... A-GPS uses a small amount of data via GPRS to get information about satellite locations from the internet - this allow the N95 to get a much quicker lock. (sub 10 seconds instead of 2-3 minutes).

If you need any more info on how to actually use MAPS then let me know.

Sorry but you can't (as far as I know) edit the standard Nokia maps...

As for the A-GPS - read on!

Goto: MENU>TOOLS>SETTINGS>GENERAL>POSITIONING

Go into "positioning methods" and make sure Assisted GPS is ticked (if it isn't then tick it) and then come back out of that one level and go to Positioning Server - Access point should be your default GPRS access point and the server address should be supl.nokia.com

Your all done!

The initial lock is sometimes quite a bit off - it can take a few minutes to get a more accurate lock... If you are using it in the car you will find it's spot on (down to a few metre's) by the time the engine has warmed up  Wink
