Hi, can anyone confirm something for me?    Basically I can use the GPS and pick up maps of where I am and also stuff like putting an address in for the states and it picks it up, does this mean the maps are already downloaded on my N95 or is it accessing the net each time to retrieve this info?    If it's the latter I presume I can download the ones I need to my phone and avoid the net connection each time?

You can download via your phone network in real time (somewhat slowly)

You can download via your PC if it is connected to the N95 via USB cable

You can use maps "off line" but you won't get any new maps, only use the ones you have.

The best way (cheapest) is to download via a PC with broadband. The maps for England are 90 MB and take from 1 - 3 hours to download (due to slow servers).

So I'm right in thinking there are currently no maps already downloaded as standard with the phone?

I have heard (rumor) that some service providers give you a chip which already contains the maps, but this is not confirmed.

Downloading the maps via your PC into the N95 is not a bad problem:

1. Charge up your N95
2. Wait until 10pm - midnight
3. Connect phone via USB to your PC (phone asks, you select "Mass storage" which is your microSD card)
4. Run MapLoader.exe and load your maps into the phone

Waiting until late at night (so I am told) gives faster results.

Cheers, struggling a bit, I did the Florida map last night and it reached 100% but the timer kept going but backwards, I chose to cancel and it advised 'download cancelled' and not sure now if it was successful!     Now trying the England map at work and the battery went flat mid way, it still kept downloading though and I've attached the charger and it still seems to be OK so fingers crossed unless it gets to 100% and does the same again!

DO NOT CANCEL.

It may run backwards for 2 - 5 minutes, just be patient...

Think it's worked now, is there anyway of telling if they are downloaded?   Checked the card and can't see anything that could be them?

PS  There is a file for the Barcelona City guide that I still can't access!

If you hook your phone up via USB cable, the phone will ask you to select what to connect to. You say "Mass Storage"

Then you look at the volume on your PC desktop, and you'll see the memory card's contents.

You should see a folder called "cities"  (if not, it may be hidden on your system; it's not hidden on mine). That is where the City Guides data is stored.

It'll say something like:  insight_en_esp_barcelona_city_ etc etc etc

Please let me know if you have any trouble.
