how to use the gps

can someone tell me the correct way to use the gps/mapping....
if i start the mapping application the gps is not on.
 do i then have to go to tools>gps to start it or is there another better way

When you start the "Maps" application this will automatically start the GPS - the reason why you think that it has not done so is because at the moment it takes ages (sometimes 5 minutes or more) to get a lock and start working!

There maybe a fix from Nokia available in the future though

ok - but when i go into maps the gps icon has a red cross on it
until i go into gps -

When you open the maps application the GPS automatically starts - the red cross means that the N95 hasn't got a lock yet - you just need to wait...... and wait ....... and wait ..... and wait.....

Hopefully Nokia will be fixing this issue soon
